Ianuarii Neverov (1810-1893) was a teacher, writer and memorialist. He studied Letters at Moscow University and moved to St. Petersburg, where he worked at the journal of the Ministry of Instruction. He directed several educational institutions in Riga, Chernigov (today Chernihiv), Stavropol’, and Moscow, receiving numerous honorary recognitions. He was in contact with many thinkers and writers of his day (such as Ivan Turgenev), and left memoirs about his public life, as well as essays concerning the organization of public educational institutions. Part of his memoirs has been published in the journal “Russkaia starina” (“Russian Antiquities”).
