Vladimir Petrić (1928-2019) was a film theorist, historian, and aesthetician, as well as a professor at Harvard University and a co-founder of the Harvard Film Archive. He was the first scholar to earn a doctoral degree in film studies in the United States, receiving his PhD from New York University’s Department of Cinema Studies. Early in his career, Petrić worked as a director in film, television, and theatre, before later focusing on experimental cinema. He was a recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including a Fulbright Scholarship to the United States and an honorary award from the Anthology Film Archives in New York City.
